Rules Framework

How Ferrowmist decouples lore from mechanics so you can use your favorite system.

Rules Framework

Ferrowmist is written to be system-flexible. The setting lore, factions, and story arcs live in their own layer, while mechanical guidance is presented as modular reference packs. That separation lets each table bring the rule set they enjoy most without losing access to the shared world.

Here's how it works:

  • Core lore first: Location briefs, NPC dossiers, and the Caldrath timeline are system-agnostic so they can slot into any rulebook.
  • Rule modules: When we publish encounters or downtime options, we include multiple stat blocks or conversion notes—currently focusing on Savage Pathfinder, with slots reserved for additional systems.
  • Table choice: Each GM selects the rule module that fits their group. You might run the same Ferrowmist site using Savage Worlds, another facilitator might use a narrative system, and both sessions still shape the same canon.
  • Shared outcomes: Session reports focus on story impact—territory gained, alliances forged, mysteries solved—so they remain valid regardless of which mechanics delivered them.

By separating narrative content from crunch, the campaign can welcome a wide range of play styles while keeping Caldrath's evolving history consistent.
