The ancient chronicles and major events that shaped the world
The world of Caldrath has a rich and turbulent history spanning millennia. From the ancient Age of Chaos to the current Fifth Era, countless civilizations have risen and fallen across its lands.
Long before mortal races walked the lands, ancient chaos lords ruled over vast territories. These mighty beings shaped the very landscape with their magic and cosmic power, creating the mountain ranges that still bear their names today.
"In those days, the sky burned with the serpentine flame, and the earth split at the will of the great worms." - The Elder Chronicles
The dragons established the first magical ley lines that still course through Caldrath, providing power to those who understand their secrets. The worms forged cavernous networks and pushed mountains into being.
As the dragons retreated to their distant lairs, the Elder Races emerged:
These races formed the first organized kingdoms and began the long process of mapping and settling the vast continent.
As the elder races conflicted with the primal nature of the Chaos Lords, new gods emerged to put order to the land.
As the new gods tamed the land with their philosophies and ideals, the old gods diminished becoming dormant or ceasing to be altogether.
Slowly the elder races adapted to a new pantheon.
When the world was organized new races began to emerge: humans, halfings, skyrith, goblins and other new beings to fill the world with vibrance. These shorted lived beings spread across Caldrath, establishing the tribes, kingdoms, and city-states that would dominate the landscape for centuries.
Their exponential growth lead to big power struggles and wars. Eventually allies and obligations led to a great war, a two-hundred-year war, that decimated much of the planet. Even the planet itself responded sundering great spanses of it self by either tainting them or physically changing their nature.
In the ashes of that war, the survivors now piece together what they can. Vacuums of power pull the ambition to the forefront of the world. With the greatest powers on the planet gone. The rest rise up or perish.
The world now stands at a crossroads...
