What Is a Living World Campaign?

How Ferrowmist synchronizes multiple tables into one evolving narrative.

What Is a Living World Campaign?

A living-world campaign treats the setting as a persistent sandbox that continues whether or not your party is at the table. Every session—no matter who runs it—updates the shared timeline, so victories, losses, and discoveries become canon for the entire community.

Key traits of Ferrowmist's living world include:

  • Shared continuity: Multiple groups adventure in Caldrath, and outcomes from one table open or close opportunities for others.
  • Player-driven goals: Factions, rumors, and downtime actions react to what the players pursue rather than to pre-scripted chapters.
  • Transparent records: Session reports, treasure ledgers, and NPC status notes keep everyone aligned on the world's current state.
  • Cooperative GMing: Facilitators coordinate upcoming plots, rotate spotlight on regions, and resolve scheduling conflicts together.

This structure rewards collaborative storytelling. Players see their actions ripple outward, and GMs can build on each other's work instead of resetting the world after every arc.
